A Brief History Lesson
(mostly fact...but not completely)
Many years ago, in the first century B.C. (or is that the last century of B.C.?)... In any case, many years ago, in the year 43 B.C., her royal highness, Cleopatra of Egypt, Daughter of Isis, had a small problem. She had to find a way to make a man jealous.
She was (by anyone’s standards) the most beautiful woman in all of the world and as such, making a man jealous should not have been necessary—nor that difficult. She was 26 years old and had already been Queen of the Nile for eight years.
Her one true love was Marcus Antonius (or Marc Antony). He was a Roman triumvir (one of three men sharing a governing realm) and was very handsome and very strong. Being so appealing to women, he had no interest in having just one girlfriend. Consequently—supposedly unbeknownst to Cleopatra—he had many girlfriends.
But this was indeed known to Cleopatra, who didn’t appreciate it at all; she wanted Marcus all to herself. To achieve this, she frequently hung out with Julius Caesar, the emperor of Rome. This would tick off Marcus for a while and he would spend more time with Cleopatra, but he soon would fall back into his old ways, compelling Cleopatra to fool around with Caesar again.
Unfortunately for Cleopatra, Caesar’s back met with the blade of Brutus’ knife about a year ago, in the year 44 B.C. This minor incident left Cleopatra without anyone to hang around with whom she considered threatening enough to persuade Marcus Antonius to give her his undivided attention. This sets our story into motion...
